Summer Trip Day 3: Venice - Bled

Here we are! On the third day of the trip. I hope you're not bored yet. Decided to post day by day since the pictures are too much for one posting. ;)

So, yesterday we were in Venice. Today, it was time to move out from Italy and enter Slovenia. Perhaps Slovenia is less known than Italy, but I can tell you it is a very beautiful country, almost similar to Switzerland. :D And our destination today was Bled, a famous city in Slovenia with beautiful lake and castle.

Bye, Venice!! Bye, Italy!!

Finally saw a sign of Slovenia

No sign of our destination yet..
We'll go to Postojna and Ljubljana the next day..

Slovenia is also a Schengen country and thus no border check at all. The drive to Bled took about 3 hours and we enjoyed the scenery along the way.

It was raining when we finally saw the sign of Bled

And the rain poured heavier when we're approaching :(

Exiting the highway towards Bled.. Yayy!!

It was almost lunch time when we reached Bled. So, the whole group stopped for lunch in a traditional Slovenian restaurant. This time, the birds were replaced by the two cute bunnies. They will show you Slovenia at its best for the next few days. ;)

Appetizer: Mushroom soup

Waiting for the main course,
take pictures with some board games

Hungry.. hungry..
No main course yet..

Finally, the main course came..
Veal steak with mushroom sauce and a cheese roll

The main course tasted nice to me, but the appetizer should have more cream inside. :D We also had a dessert after lunch, Apple Strudel, but it was not that nice either. :D The journey then continued to the Bled Castle. We passed Bled Lake while climbing the hill. It was amazing and relaxing as well to see such view.

Remember my monkey?!
She posed with my sister's panda in the bus :D

Bled Lake

The Bled Castle was not big, but it was located strategically up on the hill so people could see the tantalizing view of Bled Lake from above. It was quite a climb from the parking lot to the terrace of the castle.

Bled Castle (and a sight of our Slovenian guide)

On the terrace of the castle, we could see the panoramic view of Bled Lake. We tried to take pictures as good as we could. :)

Puschel wanted to show you the ticket and the view.. :p

This was the other side of the ticket

Aftter 1 hour in the Bled Castle, we went downhill again to ride a boat to the church. Remember the church in the middle of the lake? That's where we were heading to.

"We are a romantic couple.. <3*

So sorry no pictures were taken in the church because we were in a hurry since there were a wedding ceremony about to begin at that time. There was a legend among the Slovenians that if the groom-to-be carry the bride-to-be up the staircases towards the church, their love will last forever, and if they ring the church bell three times, their wishes will come true. We did ring the church bell but my boyfriend didn't want to carry me up the staircases.. :p So, hopefully our wishes will come true ;)

After the church, we went for dinner. Another traditional Slovenian dishes, but we preferred the lunch dishes. :D That's all for the day!! See you in the next post.. :)

  1. Lake Bled is absolutely gorgeous!! Thank you so much for the precious photos, very few people have been there. It must be surreal sitting on the boat crossing the lake to the church, we can only imagine for now! ^_^

  2. @Hugo: You will feel more astonished in the next few days *just as I promised you before the trip ;)* but Bled is also wonderful. You're right, not many people went here except for the locals.

  6. @Leona: Yes, the church is very special. Many Slovenian couples go to that church to get married. ;) Greetings to Ute and your flocks too.. :D

@Raquel: The dragon looks mighty and grand. Perhaps that's why it becomes the symbol of many Slovenia cities.

@Hugo: Just wait for two more days.. Plitvice will be up soon. ;) In the meantime, you can enjoy the rest of the photos. :D
