Fifth day of the trip!! Again, we moved to another country today. Waive farewell to Slovenia because we were going to Croatia. This is the longest country we stayed in. First, we headed to Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia.
Leaving Ljubljana towards Zagreb
Because Croatia is not part of Schengen countries, we need border and custom check this time. Luckily, the officer was quite friendly and we passed the border smoothly. The trip then continued to Zagreb, which was only about 2 hours away from Ljubljana.

Heading towards Zagreb
Yayy.. Zagreb is only 5 km away..
By the time we reached Zagreb, it was already lunchtime. We stopped by a hotel, called Hotel Dora, to have our lunch before entering the city.
Hotel Dora, our lunch place
The lunch was so-so. We had our first traditional Croatian food, a kind of veal steak with gravy. It was nice to try traditional food from the countries we visited, though most people in the group usually disliked the food. :D
After lunch, it was time to start the sightseeing. Today's itinerary was only sightseeing in Zagreb. First, we toured the city from the bus until we arrived at our destination, St. Stephen's Church.

Parliament House
Hugo and Rosa also enjoyed the view from the bus

Now, it's finally time to alight from the bus and enjoy the real view of Zagreb..

From St. Stephen Church, we took a walk around the old town of Zagreb to visit another artistic church, St. Mark Church.

Stopped by a souvenir shop to get Zagreb's stuff..
The banner showed the famous Zagreb heart.. ^^
On the way to St. Mark Church, we went through a tunnel, in which a painting was displayed. It was a painting of Virgin Mary with baby Jesus, said to have survived a big fire centuries ago miraculously. That place is considered sacred by the Croatians, many people come to pray there.

And finally after walking through the old town, we arrived at St. Mark church. What was unique about this church was the tiled roof. It was very beautiful. :)

That's all for today. From St. Mark church, we walked through the city again to find our bus. It happened that we walked through the highest part of Zagreb so we could see the beautiful city from above.

And that really concluded the day. ;) So far, which city do you like the most?? Personally, I loved every cities that I visited, but I fell in love with Bled. How about you? :)
Wow, beautiful pics! Thanks for sharing with us!

The old town and St Mark church really reminds us of Slovakia's old town and church at Banska Bystrica!
ReplyDeleteHello Hugo and Rosa, did you two have lots of fun at Croatia? ^_^
nice trip~ hope i have a chance to go there as well ;)
ReplyDelete@Hugo: Have you gone to Slovakia? I believe it is very beautiful too, perhaps typical European old town. :D Hugo and Rosa were having a very good time in Croatia. They loved sightseeing.
ReplyDeleteHugo and Rosa certainly likes sightseeing at unique places! ^_^ We posted our Slovakia trip on our blog while you were away, so you could have missed it. Here it is: Slovakia - Bratislava & Banská Bystrica
ReplyDelete@Hugo: I see.. That's why we became confused when you mentioned Slovakia before. :D Just read the post. Eastern Europe are sure very beautiful too. Now, I'm curious for your post in Germany.
ReplyDeleteIt will be Czech first then Germany, there's a ton of pictures we haven't sort out because we spent 3 days in Czech and 3 days in Germany :p In regards to your other question, we joined the tour group from Singapore. Last year when we inquired at Natas fair there wasn't any itinerary like yours.
ReplyDeleteI'm very exciting to see your pictures. I know how it feels to sort out dozens of pics. :S I guess the route we took is quite new. In Indonesia, only one tour agency has this route. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I'll be working on the pictures today :D
ReplyDeleteI see.. how many people joined in total on this route? Last year when we asked, one of the agency was willing to bring us there if we have 15 people, iirc. Still a very hard number to get when no one's generally interested.
Hmm.. We also afraid that not many people will interested in this route. At first, there were only 6 of us joining the tour. Then, a group of 11 suddenly joined too. So, at last we had 27 people joining the group. Didn't expect it will be that many. :)
